I grew up in Hawarden, Iowa and graduated from West Sioux High School. Following high school, I attended and played football at the University of Sioux Falls from 1979-1983. In 1984, I was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 9th round of the NFL Draft. I then played 15 seasons as a Punter for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Washington Redskins and was also a Pro Bowler in 1984.
After retiring from the NFL in 1999, I joined FCA in Sioux Falls, SD. My greatest joy in ministry is being part of a team that not only provides opportunities to hear the Good News of Christ, but looks for and creates opportunities for others to “fan into flame the spirit of God within them” (2 Timothy) and obtain a “voice” to share that message.
Sports gives us a platform to do that and also provides a great model to learn from as we come to understand the disciplines of commitment, sacrifice and passion. The things required of us in competition and the thing I believe God desires in us is living for and serving Him.
My wife, Laurie, and I have been married for over 30 years and have three children and three grandchildren.
