Keith Moore, State Director

Keith was born in Rosebud, South Dakota and is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. He graduated from Lyman High School in 1985 where he played football, basketball and ran track. He went on to play basketball for the Northern State University Wolves and graduated in 1990. After teaching and coaching for nearly a decade, Keith sought his Master’s Degree in School Administration from South Dakota State University and in 2009 added a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Montana State University

While attending graduate school, he was the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Residential Director at Dakota State University. Keith has also served as Indian Education Director for South Dakota’s Department of Education, Chief Diversity Officer for the University of South Dakota and as the Director of the Bureau of Indian Education in Washington, DC over a twenty-two year educational career.

In 2012, Keith and his wife, Kristie, decided to return home to South Dakota to raise their five daughters, Isabelle (14), Ava (13), Lucy (11), Ruby (8) and Ivy (5). The state of South Dakota and the countless people and families who were such an important part of Keith’s life while growing up in the state are close to his heart. He states, “So many have had a tremendous impact on my personal life. It is special to be able to lead a statewide organization and give back, to share what is most important—the gospel—with the next generation of young people growing up in South Dakota.

For Keith, service through the ministry of South Dakota Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a blessing and an honor. Grateful for the opportunity to serve His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through work in the ministry, he sees God’s hand in bringing it to fruition. Sports provided Keith a tremendous opportunity to grow, learn, and make friends when he was a young man. “I cannot thank God enough for athletics! Life can be tough, and sports provided a place to experience success. My confidence and determination as a young man grew on the fields and courts of South Dakota. I will always be grateful for the opportunities that coaches, teammates, and competition provided me during the formative years of life.”
